Notes from March’s Meeting – Political Climate

Club President Susan Peinado called the meeting to order at our regular start time of 4:00pm. Welcome and Introduction of Elected Officials and Candidates Susan welcomed and introduced guests: Bryan Peace and Kath Rogers. She thanked everyone that brought snacks. She recognized and thanked new club members: Nathan Fletcher, Shana Hazen, Andrew Ishee, and Jimmy Tabb. She also recognized Chris Ward, candidate for San Diego City Council District 3 in 2016. Old Business Liability Insurance Update. It was moved and seconded a motion to authorize the purchase of general liability insurance from the California Democratic Party. The viewing party of Cowspiracy had a good turnout and it was noted that San Diego 350 and Clairemont Clubs were great to collaborate with on this event. The club will have 2 or 3 tables at the San Diego County Democratic Party annual Roosevelt Dinner. Please let John know if you are going and your preferred seating arrangements. Tell Scott Peters and the President to Keep Dodd-Frank Financial Regulations Strong

High on the agenda of the new GOP-controlled congress is the dismantling of financial regulations put in place after the most recent financial meltdown. The house recently voted to approve HR37 (Promoting Job Creation and Reducing Small Business Burdens Act) by 271:154 with 29 Democrats voting in favor – including our representative for the 52nd Scott Peters (Susan Davis and Juan Vargas voted against the bill). Thankfully the GOP doesn’t  have a veto proof majority in the Senate and the President said in his SOTU that we would veto any further weakening of the Dodd-Frank regulation (to standing applause from Elizabeth Warren). Society of Professional Journalists Discuss Existentialism

Oct 25/26 – Walk for Scott Peters in Point Loma

Scott Peters’ campaign will be walking from their NTC location Saturday (10/25) and Sunday (10/26) starting at 10:00am. The November weekend Get Out the Vote (GOTV) schedule is also shown below. You can sign up for shifts by emailing the Point Loma area organizer (and club member) Becca Taylor ( and she will get local precinct lists to all volunteers.
