Welcome and Introduction of Elected Officials and Candidates Club President Susan Peinado welcomed and introduced guests Marta Hellborn and Anne Walker and Katherine McGrath and Travis Wolf. She also welcomed and thanked new member Andy Kopp and renewing members David Furlano, Rebecca Hostetter, Giovanni Ingolia, Margaret Ann Locke, Pat Shank, Gary Werchak, and Sustaining Member Eileen Loughnane. Program: Sex Trafficking of Minors in San Diego Susan welcomed and introduced our program and panel moderator, clubmember Sarah Boot (former candidate for City Council and former federal prosecutor). Sarah introduced the program’s panelists: Allesandra (“Ali”) Serano, Assistant United States Attorney; Sergeant Chris Cameron, San Diego County Human Trafficking Task Force; and Gayle Sollfrank of Generate Hope. Ali Serano provided an overview of domestic sex trafficking in San Diego. She noted that San Diego was ranked in the top U.S. Cities for Sex Trafficking with $96.6 million annual earnings in 2007, and it has grown by 600% over the last five years. Notes from January’s Meeting – Civic Engagement

Club President Susan Peinado called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM January 25, 2015 and thanked everyone that brought snacks. Welcome and Introduction of Elected Officials and Candidates Susan welcomed and introduced guests (Gaspar and Beverly and Rosalie Schwartz), and new members Tom Leech, Brian Polejes, Barbara Glaze, Julie Quinn, William Rodriguez- Kennedy, Dolores Veronda, and Dev Zaveri. Susan then introduced clubmember Sarah Boot, candidate for Assembly District 78. Sarah thanked the Point Loma Club and its members for supporting her campaign for City Council and provided an overview of her candidacy for the 78th Assembly District and noted that she has received the endorsement of Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins. Program: Civic Engagement For this month’s meeting the club welcomed local candidates who are setting the debate through their ongoing work with local institutions and body politic. Sarah Boot Announces Run for CA78

Clubmember Sarah Boot @SarahRBoot announced she’s running for the state Assembly’s 78th District. She attended our January meeting to announce her run to clubmembers, and she came to our Social Time after the meeting to sit and chat with a large group of members including Ed Harris @EdHarrisSD who is also running for the seat to be vacated by termed out Madame Speaker Toni Atkins in 2016. Clubmember Toni Atkins has made an early endorsement of Sarah in the race. The club is planning a panel discussion with Sarah moderating a discussion on human trafficking, a subject she was closely involved with as a federal prosecutor. (Details to be announced.)
