Aug 10 – Comedy Night Benefitting the Point Loma Assembly

Join Comedy locals Tony Calabrese & Maria Herman Plus other Comedians. The Aug. 10 Comedy Night will spotlight well-known actor and comedian Mark Christopher Lawrence and Katsy Chappell, who has entertained troops around the world and appeared on various TV comedy shows. Comedian Tony Calabrese is spearheading the campaign to help raise funds for the 102-year-old Point Loma Assembly, a community improvement organization that has served as a hub for local civic and youth groups, election polling and even as a Red Cross distribution center during both world wars. As San Diego prepares for the impact of sequestration cuts, will the recent upturn in construction, the overall improvement in California’s budget, and the growth in local technology companies be enough to see job increases and an improved outlook in San Diego county for 2013? As Europeans continue to suffer the consequences of austerity measures and their trade with the U.S. stagnates, will Obama’s renewed focus on ties with Asia help Californians? Or will the trade deals such as the Trans-Pacific Partnership be another NAFTA that facilitates the moving of jobs to Asian labor markets? Alan Gin is the author of USD’s Index of Leading Economic Indicators and a frequent contributor to local media on items of economic interest. He is an Associate Professor of Economics at the University of San Diego. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, and his Master’s of Arts and Ph.D. degrees, both in Economics, from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Mar 24 – Overturning Citizens United

Join us on March 24, when the Wonder Women from WOSD Money Out of Politics, Point Loma’s own Pam Page and Dianne Lane, return to tell us how they convinced the San Diego City Council to pass – with an unanimous vote – WOSD MOP’s resolution to reverse ‘Citizens United’ and Amend the Constitution. Our Club was their very first endorsement, at our April 22, 2012 meeting.
