Speaker Toni Atkins and Senator Marty Block Visited OB Town Council

Speaker Atkins, Lt James Gartland, Jeff Hatfield, President San Diego Lifesaving Association & Senator Block (Photo: Susan Peinado) Speaker Toni Atkins and Senator Marty Block took part in the protest against ALEC on Wednesday July 22, 2015 and that evening both appeared at the Ocean Beach Town Council (OBTC) meeting to speak and hand out certificates of appreciation to the recipients of the OBTC Community Awards. The town council meeting was masterfully chaired by club Secretary and OBTC President, Gretchen Newson (who was also at the ALEC protest earlier that day). Both politicians spoke to some of their recent legislative achievements, and neither appeared to want to leave first – could it be that they are gearing up for a competitive Senate District 39 race next year (as has been rumored)? Or will Speaker Atkins be persuaded to run for Mayor? Dec 6 – Celebrate 35 Years of Peace, Love, and OB

Come join us on Saturday 5:05pm at the OB Holiday Parade, celebrating 35 years of Peace, Love and OB. The more the merrier. Don’t you just love parades? Then join us for the fun of it! All members are invited to take part in the parade – dress festively, with your club t-shirt or blue OBcean Attitude shirt. We’ll gather around our Mario Torero painted truck near Froude and Newport at 4:30pm ready for the Parade start at 5:05pm. We are in the first section, A. Allow time for parking, you may (more than likely, will) have to park several blocks away. Kids, strollers and wheelchairs are welcome. Invite your friends via the organizer’s Facebook page. OB Stands Up To Gentrification and Wins!

Hopefully everyone is aware of the great victory for Ocean Beach that took place at City Council on Tuesday August 29. The OB Community Plan Update (12 years in the making) was passed unanimously, and the budget for the Public Facilities Financing Plans passed as well! If you’ve not (re-)registered to Vote since you moved to OB – please take a minute to do so online and consider getting involved with the OB Planning Board, OB Town Council, OB Mainstreet Association, OB Historical Society, Friends of the OB Library, OB Community Foundation, or OB Community Development Corporation.
