Veterans Plaza & the OB Community Development Corporation

Ocean Beach Veterans Plaza is a memorial to honor those who served and are still serving in the armed forces. Since 1997 the memorial has corroded thanks to the salt-air, foot-traffic and marshmallows! Many of the inscriptions are barely legible. The Ocean Beach Community Development Corporation (OBCDC) was awarded a grant from the County Board of Supervisors and the Office of Ron Roberts to improve the memorial, as a collaborative effort between OBCDC, OBMA, OB Planning Board, OB Historical Society, and the OB Community Foundation. Community Input for New Design The key principles for the new design are to: create a memorial that will stand as a place of honor, remembrance, and reflection communicate that Ocean Beach and its citizens cherish the sacrifice and dedication of all its veterans preserve the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice design a space that shall be long lasting There have been two public workshops, with recommendations to move the memorial just south of the lifeguard tower, to raise the design off the ground, and to embrace beach design elements to better reflect the character of …
