Election time is fast approaching! March 3, 2020 is the Presidential Primary. Vote by mail ballots have already been sent to military and overseas voters. San Diego mail ballots will start arriving after February 3, 2020. We’re planning a GO Team kick-off for volunteers in Point Loma, Ocean Beach and Midway the first weekend in February. The voter registration deadline is February 18, 2020. This Sunday January 26th at our General Meeting we’ll be talking through the Propositions and Ballot Measures. To help us understand the State Propositions and Local Ballot Measures we are pleased to welcome back guest speakers Anne Hoiberg and Cody Petterson, who will explain the pros and cons and field questions from members. Bring your sample ballots or voter guides with you and check off your decisions as we go along. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors who are looking for some partisan Democratic guidance. No On Newland Sierra

Newland Sierra is a development project that citizens forced the County Board Of Supervisors to place on the ballot next year or rescind their previous approval. At our November meeting we heard representatives for and against the development. The club unanimously voted No On Newland Sierra, and we encourage members to support the club’s position. Many thanks to representatives for and against the proposal for taking the time to present to the club and to field questions from members. In place of our regular monthly meeting in December we’re having our Annual Holiday Party and Toy Drive of the Point Loma Democratic Club, at the home of Ruth Rollins. Come enjoy the start of the holidays with your fellow Dems. Get your tickets here! The Club will furnish turkey, ham and soft drinks, plus two drink tickets per person for wine and (great, local) beer. This year we have a lot to communicate. March 3, 2020 there’s going to be an election! And it’s going to be big! We don’t have a meeting at the Assembly in December, but we do march in the OB Parade! All members and their friends are invited to take part to celebrate! Dress blue, make yourself glow, be sure you’re well lit (!) We’ll be joined by candidates and elected officials. We’ll gather on the corner of Newport and Sunset Cliffs Blvd at 4:00pm ready for the Parade start at 5:05pm. Allow time for parking, you may (more than likely, will) have to park several blocks away. November 24 – General Meeting – Why is the Role of a Judge Important?

Out of all local races, judge positions are often the hardest to research and understand. Judges aren’t identified on a ballot by party preference, and their professional history often makes it difficult to determine how they would side in precedent-creating cases. How can you tell if you’re electing a judge with Democratic values? Thanks to Jeanne Brown of the League of Women Voters we’ve been able to put together a fantastic panel to discuss why the role of judge is important. Professor Samantha Begovich, JD, Esq.
