Hahaha

I love Pelosi’s comment….. In the aftermath of the Supreme Court decision to strike down the controversial Defense of Marriage Act, Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) issued a statement on the matter: “No man, not even a Supreme Court, can undo what a holy God has instituted,” Ms. Bachmann said in a statement. “For thousands of years of recorded human history, no society has defended the legal standard of marriage as anything other than between man and woman.” She said the court action “will undermine the best interest of children and the best interests of the United States.” During a press conference on the high court’s decision later in the day, a member of the audience asked House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her thoughts on Bachmann’s statement. Pelosi with a weary, “Who cares?” Then she laughed. The top tax rates appear to have little or no relation to the size of the economic pie. However, the top tax rate reductions appear to be associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top of the income distribution.” According to a recent Forbes article – “These three sentences [from the Congressional Research Service, the completely non-partisan arm of the Library of Congress that has been advising Congress—and only Congress—on matters of policy and law for nearly a century] do nothing less than blow apart the central tenet of modern conservative economic theory, confirming that lowering tax rates on the wealthy does nothing to grow the economy while doing a great deal to concentrate more wealth in the pockets of those at the very top of the income chain.” So what do you do with such a report if you are a Senate …

Awards Given to Two Dedicated Point Loma Democratic Club Members

I was very happy to present plaques to Robert DeVries and to Scott Strohecker in recognition of their 16 years of service as co-editors and producers of THE PENINSULA DEMOCRAT which has been the monthly newsletter for the club. It’s one thing to be “members” all these years, but these two members showed how dedicated they were to our club and proved to be invaluable in getting the club message out to our members in all these years. Scott’s drawing of the Cabrillo Lighthouse was on every front page. We couldn’t miss the blue-paged monthly with its colorful labels, and the upcoming calendar was always on the front page. Then there were articles by Robert, and by others who he’d be reminding to do an article. I mentioned one neat cartoon/drawing in the January ’06 issue that was an ad for Texas Homegrown DOPE being sold by Bush League Seed Co., and there was a potted “plant” of W’s face with leaves around it, and the caption underneath “The Best Dope Money Can Buy.”  Our members got the news and some …
