Feb 3 – General Meeting – Rafael Castellanos to Speak on the Blue Economy – Annual Elections of Officers

Our meeting this month is earlier than usual to accommodate performances of the Point Loma Playhouse with their new production A Permanent Image.

Rafael Castellanos, who recently stepped down as Chairman of the Port Commission, will speak to us about the Blue Economy in San Diego.

“The San Diego region’s economic development potential depends on our ability to fully realize the opportunities presented by the ocean. With a commitment of $1 million a year for five years, the Port of San Diego has developed a Blue Economy Incubator to support early stage and market ready ventures. Some of this money is already going to our first round of demonstration pilot projects, which include copper remediation, vessel washing, and smart marina optimization technologies. Aquanauts, deep-sea explorers, marine equipment operators, marine spatial planners, underwater robotics technicians – these are just some of the great blue jobs of the future. We can’t even begin to imagine some of the other great blue jobs that will be created.”

We have our Annual Election of officers, with Ruth Rollins presiding as head of the nominating committee.

As well as the candidates listed below we accept nominations from the floor.

  • President, Merrin Muxlow
  • Vice President, Angela Hawkins
  • Secretary, Gary Werchak
  • Treasurer, Dave Furlano
