Oct 15 – Prison Industry in California

Our meeting this month has been moved forward a week. It will take place Sunday, October 15th, at the Point Loma Assembly (3035 Talbot St), from 4:00pm – 5:30pm. As announced previously, we will handle two more endorsements – and we will have Chula Vista city council candidate Mark Bartlett speak about the prison industry here in California.

The first endorsement we will handle is for Assemblyman Todd Gloria. He will be present at our meeting and members will have the opportunity to ask questions. He has had a very productive session, so check out some of the his legislation here.

Second, we will consider endorsing Congressman Scott Peters in his re-election bid. While he will be unable to attend our meeting on Sunday, his representative will be there to answer any policy related questions you may have. Here is his website and propublica information for your review prior to our meeting.

Our speaker will be Mark Bartlett, candidate for Chula Vista City Council District 1 and Co-founder of Reentry Resources for Change. After prison, it can be difficult to for individuals to re-integrate into society. Without access to housing, employment, effective transportation, and other resources the risk of recidivism is much greater. Mark will discuss his work with RR4C, issues that former inmates have, and problems in the California prison system.
