Every winter Western Service Workers Association’s (WSWA’s) membership of service workers and others who are low-income face the ‘choice’ of whether to heat their homes or feed their children – no choice at all! Now there is a new scourge: water shut offs. The city of San Diego shuts off water service to 24,000 households annually due to lack of ability to pay, leaving these families without an essential resource for nutrition, cooking and sanitation, and threatening public health.
WSWA is a free and voluntary, unincorporated private membership association of members helping other members meet emergency and supplemental survival needs while we fight for decency and dignity for service workers. We ask you to join us in organizing our annual Winter Survival Campaign of nutritious food, warm winter clothing and blanket distributions, utility advocacy to prevent heat and water shut offs, heater loan and Operation Winter Watch for elderly and disabled homebound members. Join WSWA and volunteer to sponsor our Super Bowl Sunday Tamale Benefit.
