Nathan Fletcher is the featured speaker at our October meeting discussing veterans affairs and the work of his foundation, the Three Wise Men.
The Three Wise Men Foundation exists to raise awareness of the problems our veterans face and raise funds that provide needed transition programs to ensure our veterans have the services they need to succeed when their military service ends.
Previously, Nathan represented San Diego in the California State Assembly. During his time in office, he served as Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Jobs in the New Economy and was a leading advocate for repealing Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. He also authored the landmark public safety legislation “Chelsea’s Law,” which imposed tougher penalties on the worst child predators in California.
Before his election to the legislature, Nathan served in the United States Marine Corps and was recognized for valor in combat. He is the Chairman of the Three Wise Men Foundation, a veteran-focused organization he founded in memory of his friends and family killed in action in Afghanistan. Nathan has also worked with international non-governmental organizations to build democratic institutions in countries including East Timor, Cambodia, Serbia, and Myanmar.
Nathan is a member of the World Economic Forum Global Agenda Council on Human Rights, a Kauffman Fellow, and a member of the national advisory boards for both Organizing for Action and the Truman National Security Project. Fletcher is an Ironman Triathlete and avid outdoorsman who enjoys surfing and alpine mountaineering/glacier climbing.
Scott Peters will also address the club with an update on his work in congress, and no doubt will discuss the recently negotiated Trans-Pacific Partnership.
The California Democratic Party begins the process of endorsing Assembly, Senate, and Congressional candidates with the Pre-Endorsement Conferences held on January 30-31, 2016. The endorsements will be finalized during the 2016 State Convention. The club has qualified for four representatives in the 78th AD to vote in the Region 20 2016 Pre-Endorsement Caucus. We’ll vote to elect our representatives at this October meeting and will accept nominations from the floor. If you’re a member and live in the 78th AD and are interested in being a delegate you can learn more by phoning (619) 800-5098, email firstname.lastname@example.org or come along to the meeting.
