Overview of Accomplishments and Engagement

Since taking office last April, I have been working on quality of life issues and promoting community engagement.  Below are some of the highlights of that work:

Community Engagement

  • Attended 67 community meetings and events
  • Hosted six community meetings in Bay Park, Point Loma, Bay Ho, Moraga, and Linda Vista on issues of homelessness, traffic calming, parking districts, and proposed development
  • Hosted five community coffees/desserts

Quality of Life

  • Opened the Edward Tyler Cramer Park in Linda Vista
  • Installed pedestrian safety upgrades in Point Loma and Ocean Beach
  • Approved a budget for Fiscal Year 2015 that includes funding for Council District Two projects such as new street lights, a new Fire Station for Point Loma and the development of the Coastal Management Plan
  • Supported an increase for minimum wage earners
  • Worked to mitigate the fly population in Mission Beach
  • Passed the Ocean Beach Community Plan Update
  • Supported the Council action to amend the Workforce Housing Offset (“linkage fee”) to fund more affordable housing in San Diego
  • Advocated for more police officers and code compliance officers

Protecting the Environment

  • Brought forth a successful Council resolution in opposition to Assembly Bill 2145 so consumers could have choices when selecting energy providers
  • Supported the passage of Senate Bill 720 that phases out single-use plastic bags in California
  • Supported a Climate Action Plan for the City of San Diego
  • Supported mandatory water restrictions
