This month’s meeting features environmental lawyer Cory Briggs and President of the newly reinvigorated Democratic Woman’s Club of San Diego County, Linda Perine.
(Clubmember) Linda will provide an overview of the series of articles and forums that the Democratic Woman’s Club is presenting on: Who Runs San Diego?
If you are a reader of the San Diego Free Press you may already be following the articles that commenced this summer with contributions from Eva Posner, Doug Porter, Cory Briggs and Linda. You can find all the installments at j.mp/whorunsSD and on Medium.
Cory who successfully sued the city over the legality of the TOT, wrote one of the recent pieces entitled The Use and Abuse of the Transient Occupancy Tax. The City recently voted not to appeal the Superior Court’s decision so this means of funding the Convention Center expansion is halted. Cory will explain how certain groups, with support from the Mayor and City Council, have gone about transferring public money into private hands.
Whether it’s the hoteliers, developers, entertainment corporations or favored tech businesses, who’s looking out for the taxpayers?
This will be a fascinating presentation and raises large concerns over the possible election of the Vice President of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association (the fox guarding the hen-house?) to the City Council in District 6 this November.
Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
