It’s our extremely great pleasure to announce that the Point Loma Democratic Club has been selected as San Diego County Democratic Party’s 2014 Club of the Year.
As San Diego county is the second largest county in California and the fifth largest in the U.S., there are numerous clubs all over San Diego County that are active within their communities and work hard to get Democrats elected. The competition was fierce. Lake San Marcos Dems have a wonderful club within a retirement community and was our major competitor. Our club is predominantly in an area that votes Republican. We work hard for every vote we turn out. And for every new member.
The award is especially nice to receive this year as the selection process was updated to allow each club president to vote, so this really is a selection by our peers – and we really appreciate it.
The vote was taken on Saturday at the Council of Clubs meeting, chaired by Ruth Rollins our former club President. Derek Casady, President of the La Jolla Dems, read the recommendation of the nominating committee, which endorsed our Club.
Club member Patrick Schultheis made an impressive presentation about the club and our activities over the last year (you can read our application here) and Ryan Hurd insured impartiality by counting the votes and announcing together with Ruth 10 to 5, our favor.
The award will be given at the annual Roosevelt Dinner, Saturday, April 5. We have already established a record for any club with our existing four tables. If you have not already reserved your seat and you want to see your club receive this honor, we’ll start a fifth table. You can order tickets online here or by calling the club at 619 800-5098.
