Ed Harris Surprises at Kick-off Party

BB_EHOn his eleventy-first (111th) birthday Bilbo Baggins held a party, announced that he was handing his estate over to Frodo, and then disappeared from sight. So begins the fantastical “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

On Saturday July 20, Ed Harris held a “kick-off party” for a campaign to elect a Democrat to represent District 2 on the San Diego City Council. But Ed, like Bilbo, had a surprise in store for over 200 guests that included Ruth & Susan, Nathan Fletcher, several club members and many lifeguards.

Ed announced that he’d decided not to run for the seat, and instead he introduced another Point Loma Democratic club member who is running as a Democrat, Sarah Boot. Ed wanted to be a voice for the beach areas and to help change City politics, but with two adorable young children and his wonderful wife Kate, decided he should spend more time with them, for now.

Sarah gave a short speech describing her background as Assistant United States Attorney, Criminal Division at United States Attorney’s Office (as a general prosecutor she has worked on local cases of sex trafficking, narcotics trafficking, and many other crimes), recent President of the Lawyers Club, and associate lawyer at Cooley LLP, where she represented Internet and technology companies, including eBay, Google and the Salk Institute.

Sarah is a graduate of the University of Michigan and serves on the advisory board of Run Women Run, she also serves as a volunteer career mentor for young women in a program called “Just In Time” and is an avid rock climber.
