Rebecca Neary has been drawing since she was 3 years old.

She went to art school at the Art Institute of Boston in Boston MA but her art has been described as self-taught and her style might be considered primitive or naive. One young artist she met while hanging a show in a coffee house described her painting style as “rough but real” (a bit like Rebecca!) Another woman said her paintings made her “feel happy just to be alive and we don’t feel that way very often” which is what Rebecca hopes for, anti-depressant paintings with no side effects!

Since she began painting ahe has shown at Linton High School student shows (one of her pieces got stolen off the wall at the show, which Rebecca considered a compliment) Boston Common Art in the Park show, Art Institute of Boston Alumni Show, Schenectady Stockade Art Show, Women’s Opportunity Week Women in Government, the Belly Up Tavern Solana Beach, Ocean Beach Street Fair, Jazz 88 Ocean Beach Jazz and Art Festival, Salon Diego, Salon Paragon, Red’s Espresso Coffee House and Gallery, Museum of the Living Artist Balboa Park, Point Break Café. Gelato Vero, Taste of Third Avenue Chula Vista Restaurant Walk and Art Event, Chula Vista Harbor Days, and currently she is showing at Hit the Spot Coffee House on Pacific Highway in Oceanside.

Rebecca participated in an all California show as a guest artist sponsored by Christine Kehoe at the State Capital in Sacramento, and has donated art which sold at fund raising auctions at the National Cat Protection Society fund raisers in Newport Beach and Spring Valley Locations, San Diego River Park Foundation Fund raiser and previous fundraisers for the Democratic club.

She has won awards at juried shows at Women’s Opportunity Week San Diego Women in Government shows, Museum of the Living Artist in Balboa Park and Art of Pride in Balboa Park and has been invited to participate in a juried show at the Delmar Fair.

Rebecca welcomes interest in her work which is all done by traditional method of working from her own initial paint sketch, often from life or on site outdoors.
