We join our fellow Democrats in San Diego in mourning the passing of Charlie McKain who died over the weekend at the age of sixty-five. He was a member of the California Democratic Party’s Executive Board and member of the state Party’s Rules Committee for almost twenty years. Charlie also served as a member of San Diego Democratic Central Committee.
A retired staff attorney for the California Court of Appeals, Fourth District, Charlie was active in San Diego politics and in many ways was responsible for the LGBT community’s political coming of age in the city. He was instrumental in the 1990-1991 city re-districting that created San Diego’s third council district, which lead to the election of the city’s first LGBT city council member.
Our hearts go out to his husband Robert and to their family.
