June 5 – California Statewide Primary Election

This will be California’s first statewide election under the new Jungle Primary system.

The President and Central Committee members are still selected by Party. But for every other partisan office, anybody can vote for anyone they want. The top two candidates then face off in November even if they both belong to the same Party. And they still face off in November even if one of them received more than 50% of the June vote.

Democrats are at a disadvantage in the Jungle Primary because of the traditionally low Democratic turnout for June elections.
